Charles W. Hall, a founding member of Fulbright's tax department, will be recognized by the State Bar of Texas as a Texas Tax Legend during its Tax Section luncheon at the annual meeting in Houston on Friday, June 15.

"Charles has been instrumental in developing Fulbright's tax practice, which is one of the most recognized in the United States," said Steven B. Pfeiffer, Chair of Fulbright's Executive Committee. "We have great admiration for his accomplishments and appreciate his long tenure with the firm."

In an interview with William Elliott, former tax section chair, Hall described a hallmark of his career being his ability and willingness, if not enthusiasm, to take a tax case to the courtroom. Hall's client list includes many of the country's top corporations and preeminent individuals.

"We have been truly fortunate to have in our midst a skilled practitioner such as Charlie, who throughout his career has continued to raise the bar for our department," said Jack Allender, chair of Fulbright's tax department.

Earlier this year, Best Lawyers in America recognized Hall as Lawyer of the Year in Litigation & Controversy - Tax, Houston. In 2006, the Tax Section of the State Bar of Texas named Hall an Outstanding Texas Tax Lawyer. His Chambers USA designation of Senior Statesman in Nationwide: Tax Controversy is the highest level of ranking for the legal directory.

During a career spanning 58 years, Hall served as chair of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation, co-chair of the National Conference of Lawyers and C.P.A.s, chair of the Tax Section of the State Bar of Texas, regent of the American College of Tax Counsel, and a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association.

Hall also serves as a board member of the Texas Medical Center, as president of the M.D. Anderson Foundation, as president of the Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation, as vice president of the John S. Dunn Foundation and as vice president of the Allbritton Foundations.

"I was surprised to be selected for this recognition and am very honored to be considered a 'Texas Tax Legend,'" Hall said. "I enjoy practicing tax law and helping those who have followed me."

Hall received his LL.M. in taxation from Southern Methodist University in 1959, his J.D. from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 1954 and his B.A. in mathematics from Sewanee: The University of the South in 1951.

Fulbright was named Law Firm of the Year by the U.S. News Media Group (U.S. News & World Report) and Best Lawyers in the category of Litigation – Tax for 2011-2012. The firm also earned the American Bar Association Section of Taxation's 2011 Janet Spragens Pro Bono Award.
